What is Baptism?
Baptism (sometimes recognized as Water Baptism) is the first of the seven sacraments recognized and practiced in the Christian Church. It is one of the three sacraments known together as the Sacraments of Initiation; Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist. An individual’s ‘life’ in the Church begins from the moment they are baptized as from that point they are active members of the Church and are allowed to partake in other sacraments that follow. Baptism is most often carried out when an individual is an infant (parents' decision) and is also an option later in life if they choose to become part of the Church.
“Through Baptism we are freed from sin and reborn as sons of God; we become members of Christ, are incorporated into the Church and made sharers in her mission: Baptism is the sacrament of regeneration through water in the word (Vatican, 1993)”.
